DC power Project – Telecommunications

Ryan Wilks successfully completed a DC power project for the telecommunications industry at an operational strategic facility in Campbellfield, Victoria. The works were challenging as it required the works to be completed live with no disruption to service and reliability to the strategic facility but importantly to be undertaken in a safe manner.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

The project involved the following works:-

  • Supply and installation of 6 off Eaton rectifiers
  • Migration works and removal of an existing PDU
  • Installation of a new PDU for an existing power plant
  • Installation of 2 new TPDUs
  • Installation of cable ladder for related works
  • Installation of a new canopy for a containerised switchroom

Supply and installation of 6 off Eaton rectifiers

Ryan Wilks supplied and installed 6 off Eaton rectifiers to an existing power plant to provide more capacity to the power plant.

PDU Works

The works involved the removal of PDU  3 on Power Plant 3 and installation of a new PDU 2 on Power Plant 5. In order for the removal of the old PDU and the installation of the new PDU to be undertaken, some migration works were required prior. Circuits were migrated from PDU 3 from Power Plant 3 to PDU 1 and PDU 2 from Power Plant 3. PDU 3 from Power Plant 3 was then removed and shipped to Sydney with the new PDU 2 from Power Plant 5 installed in its place. Creation of new penetrations and the installation of new cable ladder to enable installation of new cables for the power feed from power plant 5 to the new PDU 2. Installation of new power feeds consisting of 300mm2 cables from the existing power plant 5 to the new PDU 2 and some augmentation works through the migration of existing cables on PDU 1 to PDU 2. The installation of shrouding to enable safe connection of cables onto power plant 5 and the commissioning of the new PDU 2 with the migration of some circuits from power plant 3 to power plant 5.

TPDU Works

The work involves the positioning and enabling works for the installation of 2 new TPDU in a temporary position to enable power for future migration to an expansion area. Creation of a new penetration and the installation of new cable ladder to enable installation of new cables for power feeds to the TPDU. The installation of four new power feeds consisting of 300mm2 cables from existing power plant 4 for each new TPDU. New equipotential bonds and earth connections to the new TPDU to an existing telecommunications earth bar and new alarm connections from each TPDU to the MDF.

Canopy Works

The containerised power plant 5 had issues with water pooling on top of the container. As a solution to the water pooling, Ryan Wilks installed a new Colorbond canopy over the container which enabled water to flow away from the top of the canopy and was assisted with some guttering to flow water away from the container. All works were successfully installed. The above project highlights the proven success of Ryan Wilks in undertaking works in the specialist field of DC power projects in telecommunications facilities anywhere in Australia and can successfully complete projects with no exceptions to safety and reliability.
