Various Telecommunication Exchanges – Battery Replacement

Ryan Wilks has recently completed a number of DC power projects for the telecommunications industry at a number of operational strategic facilities.  All works are challenging as they are required to be completed live, with no disruption to service and reliability to the strategic facility.

Mitchell Battery Replacement

Ryan Wilks has recently completed a battery replacement project at a telecommunications facility in Canberra. The telecommunications facility is supported off a single power plant. This power plant has 4 battery banks supporting it and two of the battery banks underwent thermal runaway. Ryan Wilks was engaged to replace the two battery banks. As part of the works Ryan Wilks demolished and disposed of the two battery banks in compliance with strict environmental guidelines.

The two battery banks were then replaced with 2 off new Narada GFM1500E battery banks each consisting of 3 off 48V strings consisting of 2V battery cells in 3 x 8 configuration with new battery racks. The battery racks were built, batteries positioned, battery links connected and interconnecting cables installed. The batteries were then charged to 54V capacity and undertook a battery capacity discharge test for 3 hours at constant power and then placed into service when testing and commissioning was completed.

Mitchell TPDU Modules Installation

Ryan Wilks has completed an upgrade project of an existing TPDU (Terminal Power Distribution Unit) at a Canberra telecommunications facility. The works involved the installation of two new additional TPDU modules each containing 12 x 63A + 8 x 125A circuit breakers to an existing TPDU and two power feeds consisting of 300mm2 cables from an existing power plant unit to the TPDU. The installation of power feeds from the TPDU busbar to the new TPDU modules. As part of the works two new 250A circuit breakers were installed on the power plant for the TPDU and alarm contacts on the TPDU and power plant were also installed for new alarms for the system. The new power feeds and alarms for the TPDU modules were successfully tested and commissioned.

Mascot TPDU Installation

Ryan Wilks has recently completed the installation of a TPDU (Terminal Power Distribution Unit) at a Sydney telecommunications facility. The work involved the positioning, isolation works and installation of a new TPDU with 2 new modules. The installation of two new power feeds consisting of 300mm2 cables from an existing power plant unit to the TPDU. Installation of new earth bars for the TPDU and a new earth connections to the TPDU from an existing telecommunications earth bar. As part of the works two new 250A circuit breakers with auxiliary contacts were installed on the power plant for the new TPDU feeds. New alarm contacts for the new power plant circuit breakers and a new alarm connection from the TPDU to the MDF.

In addition to these works, Ryan Wilks were also able to successfully migrated existing power feeds to an existing TPDU from one power plant to another. The new power feeds for the TPDU, TPDU and alarms were successfully tested and commissioned.

The above projects highlights the proven success of Ryan Wilks in undertaking works in the specialist field of DC power projects in telecommunications facilities and can successfully complete projects with no exceptions to safety and reliability.
