Queensland Art Gallery – Dimmer Upgrade

Arts Queensland engaged AECOM to undertake a review of the existing lighting control and dimming system for the Queensland Art Gallery located in South Brisbane. The Art Gallery’s existing lighting control and dimming system is split across two control platforms with separate interfaces, an older UNISON control system that controls existing Jands and LSC dimmers via DMX and a newer Dynalite control and dimming system using DYNET.

The aim of this project was to provide a consolidated lighting control system with a single interface for the whole venue and reduce the different type of dimmer modules. The existing Jands dimmer modules were replaced with new LSC dimmer modules. The lighting control system was consolidated with the newer Dynalite lighting control system by decommissioning the existing UNISON and providing new DMX interfaces in the Dynalite lighting control system to allow the control of the LSC dimmers by via DMX. The outcome was such that the venue is now able to control all the lights within the venue through a single interface (i.e. Dynalite using either DYNET).

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

The project comprised of the following elements:

  • Replacement of all the existing Jands HP Series dimmers with new LSC EKO 506 modules. Upgrade of lighting control system and integration with the existing Dynalite (Dynet) system.
  • Removal of the existing Unison Lighting Control System.
  • Confirmation all DMX channel locations, updating drawings and schedules so all channels can be referenced easily.
  • Training of relevant Gallery staff in the use of the new Lighting Control System.
