Bankstown Hospital – Banks House SGP
“Bankstown Hospital’s Mental Health Unit is Backed Up”
South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) required this work to enable load re-distribution from Main Switchboard No.2 to Main Switchboard No.1. The migration of a 400Amp load of Banks House elevated the load demands of MSB No.1 and as a prerequisite a stand alone 350KvA standby diesel generator system was required to back up this Acute Adult Mental Health Unit.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
The project was completed in three stages:
- Switchboard modifications and associated cabling works during a scheduled out-of-hours controlled shutdown of Bankstown Hospital’s non essential MSB No.1 to enable the transfer of Banks House load in stage 2.
- Switchboard modification works to Banks House MDB to allow the new generator and ATS cabling works associated with the new reticulation and generator auxiliary supply. Temporary generating power was implemented to critical services within Banks House Mental Health Unit to allow the facility to function without major disruption. On completion of the Banks House MDB modification works final generator and ATS site acceptance testing was conducted whilst critical services were maintained through temporary generator power. The new Banks House generator was tested in partial building load before reinstatement of the full building load.
- Final ‘Black Start” testing of the Banks House automatic transfer switch and generator was simulated by the isolation MSB No 1 supply to Banks House. Transfer of power from mains supply to generator supply was observed and then from generator supply back to mains supply. The full building load tested for one hour and witnessed by all stakeholders.
This project was delivered by Gallagher Jeffs construction project management and designed by Richard Earngey & Associates Pty Ltd Consulting Electrical & Critical Services Engineers. The project team was diligently supported by the SWSLHD Engineering Services / Capital Works Team and together with Bankstown Hospital, major disruption to the hospitals critical operational facilities went without incident.
The project was completed on the Tuesday 11th May 2017 and was well received by both the end user NSW Mental Health and the delivery team of SWSLHD, Gallagher Jeffs, Richard Earngey & Associates Pty Ltd and Ryan Wilks Pty Ltd.
Project Details:
- New 350kVA standby diesel generator.
- New 400 Amp ATS.
- New 400Amp fire rated cabling system.
- Switchboard modification works to critical Hospital MSBs and Mental Health Management, corporate services management, staff and nurses. The successful collaboration of all parties and thorough contingency planning enabled these works to be completed without incident.
- Associated AMS / BMS.
- Full factory and site acceptance testing of all new ATS’s & generator.
- Co-ordination and risk management / contingency planning of electrical cut over works.
