Griffith University – 11Kv Transformer Upgrade
Ryan Wilks has continued their relationship with Griffith University by completing the installation of a new 11kV RMU and the replacement of a 500kVA Padmount Transformer with a new 750kVA Transformer at the Logan Campus situated in Logan, South East Queensland.
To allow for future HV Switching that does not affect the operation of the entire site, the new RMU has separate switches to isolate the new 750kVA transformer from the existing RMU 2 located further into the university’s campus.
The new 750kVA Transformer allows for future HV extension as additional service conduits are installed underground, therefore no disturbance of the new concrete plinth surrounding the transformer will be required. The LV section of this transformer supports a new 1600Amp Switchboard located adjacent to the new transformer supporting local services and a new campus.
A new earthing arrangement was installed around the HV fenced area and a new transformer to ensure the HV and LV systems compliance.
Substantial civil works were required for new conduits for the new HV and LV cabling and a transformer culvert. Making good, including concreting and turf finished the groundwork to a high standard.
Ryan Wilks engaged Energex to isolate the incoming HV network to allow the works to be done safely. The cutover works were completed within 1 day and temporary electrical support was utilised to ensure critical services were maintained at the university during this period.
