Queensland Performing Arts Centre – Playhouse Theatre

The existing performance dimming system in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre – Playhouse Theatre had been in service for a number of years and had developed some stability issues resulting sporadic and unpredictable “dips” in the stage lighting levels during performances. LSC Lighting Australia were engaged to install approx. 966 of dimming channels by way of a mixture of hardwired and patchable dimmers. A customised version of their “TEKO” dimmer was designed to suit the existing spaces and systems.

Ryan Wilks were engaged by LSC because of their familiarity with LSC products and previous installation experience on other projects. The scope included the following:

  • Repositioning the existing power supplies to suit the new patchable dimmer mounting locations
  • Installing a strut support structure on the walls for the patchable dimmers to hang from.
  • Removal of the old dimmer modules
  • Rewiring and connection of the new hardwired dimmers and testing of each channel’s cabling as some of this had not been used for quite some time.

Once the support systems were in place and hardwired dimmers fitted and connected LSC moved through and installed their patchable dimmers, repatched the DMX and commissioned each module to QPAC preferences. The works were carefully planned around the busy QPAC performance schedule and completed within allocated timeframes ensuring once again a happy client.
